Fire
Why a fire name works
Fire is the great ambiguity: it cooks, forges, warms and destroys. Dwarves and gnomes use it as craft, dragonborn and tieflings as power, halflings as home. The same root therefore sets a very different tone depending on whose mouth it is in, which is the whole reason Namewright keeps a separate tongue for each people.
When a name needs a gentler fire, reach for ember or hearth; when it needs a fiercer one, pair fire with a creature or a weapon. Fire plus oath is the classic zealot; fire plus song is a bard whose performances end in scorch marks.
Character hooks
- A dwarf smith whose fire name was given in jest at the apprenticeship and kept in earnest ever since.
- A dragonborn who hates her clan name, which means fire, because she is afraid of it.
- A halfling cook whose family has been named for the hearth for nine generations and has the pies to prove it.
What to avoid
- Fire plus blood plus doom is a name that wins nothing. Choose one idea.
- Dragon names that lean entirely on fire read as the same dragon. Add a second root from a different field.
Pairings that work
Fuse fire with a second meaning. One name each from three different peoples.

Questions
What is a fantasy name that means fire?
Sansesael (Sylthae (elves), “Fire-star”), Kollak (Dûrakh (dwarves), “Fire”), Ignarava (Xarthic (dragonborn), “Fire”), and many more above. Use the forge to combine "fire" with a second meaning.
What is the word for fire in Sylthae?
In Sylthae, Namewright's own constructed elven language, fire is sanse, pronounced SAHN-seh. It is not Tolkien's Sindarin or Quenya, and not a language from any published game.
What is the difference between fire, flame and ember names?
Fire is the whole phenomenon, flame is its visible tongue, ember is what remains warm. Ember names are quieter and survive better.
